Why Eat Organic?

Why eat organic? There are many good reasons. Here is a partial list of them:

Everyone wants to eat healthy foods. Organic foods are healthy for you -- more so than the alternatives. Chemical-free, naturally grown foods are healthier for you. They contain:

NO additives

NO synthetic chemicals either in the soil or sprayed on the plant

NO preservatives

NO toxic chemicals such as organophosphates, DDT and PCB’s that have been implicated in weight gain in humans as well as food animals such as cattle, sheep and pigs

NO heavy metal residues (such as aluminum, cadmium, lead and mercury)

NO antibiotics that can cause allergic reactions or intolerance

NO hormones that can play havoc with our own immune and metabolic systems

and organic foods are not allowed to be genetically modified (umm, do you really want to eat something that contains pesticides as part of what it IS, just because it was easier to grow it that way?)

Organically grown foods also contain:

Higher percentage of nutrients (allowing you to need to eat less overall)

Higher percentage of natural vitamins such as C, beta carotene and B (hey, fewer pills to take)

Higher percentage of minerals in their natural, easily-assimilated form (such as chromium, selenium, calcium, boron, lithium, and magnesium) needed for optimal health

But here is one of the biggest reasons of all:

They taste so great! Yes, despite what you may have heard back in the early days of “health food”, organically grown food is delicious.

If you were to stage a blindfold test, where you could taste samples of different fresh or processed foods without knowing which ones were organically grown, you would more than likely choose the organic foods based on taste alone. There is that much difference in quality.

It’s a not-so-well-kept secret of gourmet chefs in all the top restaurants in the world that they prefer fresh, locally-and-organically grown produce, meats, fish, and ingredients. Why do you suppose that is? Well, they know something the rest of us are just learning -- to get food to taste its best, you must start with the raw ingredients.

It’s really impossible to make something taste like it’s worth the prices you'll find in a gourmet menu unless you have quality products to work from; what you start with has to be top drawer in the first place. That is just always going to be organic.

But you don’t have to believe me; try it yourself and see what you think. Do a taste test. Buy the same vegetable in its “regular” form and in its organic form, and prepare them separately but using the same cooking techniques and see what you notice. Ask some gourmet chefs.

If you can find better-tasting food than organic foods (without having to add spices or flavorings to cover up the fact that they taste like sawdust without it) more power to you!

As for me, I think I will stick to the organically grown fresh produce, meats, dairy and eggs, tea, coffee, and ingredients that deliver robust health benefits without any of the worry, and that over deliver on taste and flavor all by themselves.

And natural, organic food isn't just for adults, either ~ if it's good enough for you, it's also better for babies and toddlers, not to mention the family pet. Here you can find all the information you need for your whole family; eat well, to BE well!

Natural organic foods: that’s the way to go. See, to me, it not only has to taste great -- it has to taste extraordinary! That’s organic. And that’s why I love it so much. I love the aroma as it’s cooking, I love the satisfaction in each bite, and I love how it makes me feel.

Once you’ve tasted how great organic food smells, tastes, and makes you feel, you too will be hooked for life -- but that’s OK, because it’s a wonderful way to go!

Now, if you REALLY want to hear someone who makes the most sense of all this, you have to read Jane Goodall's latest book, Harvest for Hope. Check it by clicking on this image (and when you go there, check out my review of this book):

Now, have you read this magazine? It's the ONE must-read magazine for people who love great organic gourmet foods. I read my copy cover-to-cover the day it arrives, and mark at least 3 recipes I plan to try. Get it here:
